This episode from Washington, DC takes a critical look at Pakistan's counterinsurgency capabilities; the refugee crisis in the Swat valley, expectations for the newly introduced Kerry-Lugar legislation and the possibility of insurgents gaining control of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.

Part one focuses on working towards a regional approach to the issues facing Afghanistan and Pakistan, the role development aid and reconstruction projects should play, suicide bombings and the potential threat posed by Pakistan's agreement with the Taliban in the Swat Valley.

Taped just two days after the historic presidential inauguration of Barack Obama, this program focuses on the new U.S. administration, the bilateral relationship with Pakistan, the fight against extremism and the conflict in Afghanistan.
